Thirty Spices Chef Spicy Fermented Tofu
Thirty Spices Chef Spicy Fermented Tofu|Taiwan Night Market Comfort in a Pot
Miss that bold, funky, deeply comforting stinky tofu from Taiwan’s night markets? Thirty Spices Chef Spicy Fermented Tofu is our love letter to that memory – the kind of “smell a mile away, tastes like home” comfort food you either dream about… or fall in love with at first bite.
To get that unmistakable flavor right, we start with a rich, slow-simmered pork bone broth as the base, layer in thirty spices of aromatics and traditional herbs, and then add fermented tofu made from fruit- and vegetable-fermented brine. The result is a broth that’s not just “stinky,” but deeply savory, complex, and full of character – the kind that hooks you after one sip and keeps calling you back.
The spice level is a gentle, mild chili warmth 🌶 – enough to feel cozy and slightly tingly, but not an extreme “numb and burn” experience. If you love heat, you can always add your own chili oil, fresh chilies, or spicy sauce to take it up a notch and make it your signature bowl.
Each pot gives you funky-fragrant fermented tofu and a seriously drinkable broth. On a cold day, a tired night, or whenever nostalgia hits, just pull a pack from your freezer, heat it up, and suddenly your kitchen feels a little like a tiny Taiwan night market stall.
※ This is a spicy fermented tofu soup. Actual contents and net weight may vary; please refer to the product label for details.
※ Spice level: mildly spicy 🌶. Chili lovers can easily level up the heat with extra chili on the side.
※ Best stored frozen; generally keeps up to about six months. Please follow the “best by” date on the package.
Cooking Instructions (click to expand)
This product is a fully cooked frozen fermented tofu soup. For the best experience, heat until the soup is fully boiling and the tofu is hot all the way through before serving.
1️⃣ Stovetop (most recommended)
- Remove the pack from the freezer and let it thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature until partially or fully thawed.
- Cut open the pouch and pour the fermented tofu and broth into a pot.
- If you prefer a lighter broth, you can add a splash of water or unsalted stock to adjust the saltiness and richness. This is also a great time to add extras like napa cabbage, enoki mushrooms, or glass noodles.
- Heat over medium to medium-low until the soup comes to a full rolling boil. Let it gently simmer for a few more minutes so the tofu and add-ins soak up the broth.
- Taste and adjust – add chili oil, fresh chili, garlic, or cilantro if you like – then ladle into bowls and serve hot.
2️⃣ Hot Water Bath (minimal cleanup)
- Transfer the pouch from the freezer to the fridge or room temperature until partially or fully thawed.
- Without opening, place the sealed pouch into a pot of boiling water, making sure the water level fully covers the pouch.
- Keep at a gentle boil for about 10–12 minutes, turning the pouch once or twice so it heats evenly.
- Carefully remove the pouch, cut it open, and pour the soup and tofu into a bowl or small pot. You can enjoy it as is, or briefly return it to the stovetop with added vegetables or noodles before serving.
3️⃣ Electric Cooker / Rice Cooker (hands-off option)
- Thaw the pouch, then open it and transfer the soup and tofu into a heatproof bowl that fits inside your rice cooker.
- Place the bowl into the inner pot, add about half to one cup of water to the outer pot, and turn the cooker on.
- When it switches to “warm,” stir gently and check that the soup is fully heated through and steaming hot. If you’d like a stronger, more reduced broth, you can run one more short cooking cycle.
※ Always heat until the soup is actively boiling and the tofu is hot in the center before serving.
※ Any vegetables, glass noodles, herbs, or chili shown in photos are serving suggestions only and are not included.
Tips & Notes (click to expand)
- Store in the freezer upon arrival and use by the best-by date indicated on the package for the best flavor and texture.
- Once opened and reheated, do not refreeze. If you have leftovers, refrigerate promptly and enjoy within 1–2 days.
- It’s normal for the broth to appear slightly gelled or for fat to solidify when chilled – this will melt back into a smooth, rich soup once heated.
- This product contains soy and may contain other allergens. Please refer to the ingredient list on the package for full allergen information.
- Spice level is mild. For very spice-sensitive individuals, start with a small portion of broth; for chili lovers, feel free to add extra chili oil or sauce to taste.
