Sesame Oil Chicken Soup｜Classic Taiwanese Comfort in a Bowl
Craving that deeply warming sesame oil chicken you’d get from mom or grandma? Sesame Oil Chicken Soup is our take on that classic Taiwanese favorite – rich, fragrant, and made for chilly nights and extra-cozy moods.
We start by stir-frying old ginger in black sesame oil until it’s intensely aromatic, then simmer it with rice wine only – no added water – to create a concentrated soup base. When you dilute it at home with water or stock and add chicken and veggies, you get a pot of soup that feels like it warms you from the inside out.
The flavor is bold and comforting: sesame oil aroma, spicy ginger heat, and gentle rice wine notes all layered together. It’s the kind of soup people reach for on cold days, late nights after work, or whenever they just want something soothing, steamy, and deeply satisfying.
This product is a soup base, so you can build it however you like – add chicken drumsticks or thighs, mushrooms, cabbage, leafy greens, or tofu. Keep it simple for a light supper or go “all out” for a weekend hot pot–style meal at home.

Cooking Instructions (click to expand)
This product is a frozen sesame oil chicken soup base. We recommend thinning it with water or stock to your preferred strength, then adding chicken and vegetables and cooking until everything is fully done and the soup is boiling.
1️⃣ Stovetop (most recommended)
- Remove the soup base from the freezer and let it thaw in the refrigerator or at room temperature until it can be poured out.
- Cut open the pouch and pour the soup base into a pot.
- Add water or unsalted stock to taste (we recommend starting around a 1:1 ratio). Like a stronger wine and sesame flavor? Add less water. Prefer it milder? Add a bit more.
- Add chicken pieces (such as drumsticks or thighs), plus any mushrooms or vegetables you like. Heat over medium to medium-low until the soup comes to a full rolling boil.
- Simmer until the chicken is fully cooked through and tender. Taste and adjust seasoning with a pinch of salt if needed, then ladle into bowls and serve hot.
2️⃣ Hot Water Bath + Stovetop (for less cleanup)
- Transfer the pouch from the freezer to the fridge or room temperature until partially or fully thawed.
- Without opening, place the sealed pouch into a pot of boiling water. Make sure the water level fully covers the pouch.
- Keep at a gentle boil for about 8–10 minutes, turning the pouch once or twice to heat evenly.
- Carefully remove, cut open, and pour the hot soup base into a pot. Add water or stock, then chicken and vegetables, bring back to a boil, and cook until everything is done.
3️⃣ Electric Cooker / Rice Cooker (hands-off option)
- Thaw the soup base, then cut open the pouch and pour it into a heatproof bowl that fits inside your rice cooker.
- Add water or stock to your desired strength, then add chicken and vegetables.
- Place the bowl in the inner pot, add about 1 cup of water to the outer pot, and turn the cooker on. When it switches to “warm,” check that the soup has come to a full boil and the chicken is fully cooked through.
- If you’d like a deeper flavor, you can run one more short cooking cycle.
※ Always heat until the soup is fully boiling and all ingredients are thoroughly cooked before serving.

- Microwave: Pour defrosted soup into a microwaveable safe container, place lid with ventilation holes, and microwave for 5-7 minutes (1300W microwave oven).
- Electric cooker: Pour frozen soup into the cooker and heat.
- Water-heating: Once the frozen soup is thawed, place the entire heat safe bag into a boiling pot of water enough to cover the entire surface. Heat over medium heat for 3-5 minutes.
Braised Beef Soup(with Beef Shank), Braised Beef Tendon, Thirty Spices Chef Spicy Fermented Tofu, Frozen Baked Sweet Potato, Braised Napa Cabbage:

- Shipping days are from Monday through Thursday. No weekend shipping (Friday through Sunday). Depending on order date chicken essence will arrive Tuesday through Friday of each week.
- We do not process orders on all major holidays. ALL methods are done within business days.
- We ship via FedEx Next Day Air only.
