From 2016 to 2026, BROTH has spent ten years crafting four kinds of chicken essence. None of them came to life by accident. Each one was created to answer a real need, to accompany you through different stages of life, and to support you as you continue doing your best, day after day.
Today, in this anniversary month of March, we want to share the stories of these four familiar companions with you.

This was our very first product, and the purest expression of where we began.

Ten years ago, our founder first made chicken essence for her own child. At the time, she could not find a truly clean, additive-free chicken broth on the market, so she decided to make it herself. The very first batch was made the most traditional and painstaking way: a whole chicken, not a single drop of water added, slowly dripped over low heat for more than eight hours. The resulting broth was golden and clear, filling the kitchen with its rich aroma. After drinking it, her child slept especially peacefully.
In that moment, she realized something simple: truly good food does not need to be complicated. It only needs care.

Over time, we received more and more feedback: “The original is wonderful, but sometimes I feel especially drained. Could you add something that helps replenish energy and support the blood?” We noticed that many of our female customers—especially mothers—shared similar concerns: after childbirth, they often felt depleted, looked pale, and were constantly tired. What they needed was something beyond basic nutrition—a gentler, more restorative kind of nourishment.
That was when we began studying jujube and goji berries.
Jujube are traditionally known for supporting the spleen and nourishing the blood, often considered a kind of “natural vitamin” passed down through generations. In Shennong’s Classic of Materia Medica, they are listed as a superior herb and described as helping “settle the center, nourish the spleen, and support the twelve meridians.” Goji berries, meanwhile, are valued for nourishing the liver and kidneys. They, too, have been recorded since Shennong’s Classic of Materia Medica, where they are said to “strengthen the tendons and bones, and with long use, lighten the body and delay aging.” Together, one nourishes the blood and one supports the liver; one enters the spleen and one the kidneys. They complement each other in a way that is both gentle and well-rounded.
We gently dry red dates and goji berries at low temperature, grind them into powder, and drip-filter them together with our chicken essence, allowing their essence to slowly infuse every drop.

One of our longtime customers once asked us, “Do you have something suitable for summer? When the weather gets hot, the original feels a little too rich.” And it was true—although chicken essence is fat-free, it is still a concentrated broth, and some people simply do not crave something rich in warmer weather.
So we began searching for an ingredient that could both replenish and refresh. That was when American ginseng came into view.
American ginseng, also known as Western ginseng, is cooling in nature while still deeply nourishing, making it unique among ginseng varieties. Ben Cao Cong Xin records that it can “nourish the lungs, reduce internal heat, generate fluids, and relieve fatigue.” Most importantly, it replenishes without creating excess heat, and nourishes yin without feeling heavy. Traditional texts describe it as: “Cooling yet replenishing—when one needs the benefit of ginseng but cannot tolerate its warmth, this may be used in its place.”
That was exactly the answer we had been looking for. When you need to restore your energy but want to avoid feeling overheated, American ginseng chicken essence becomes the gentlest choice.
We drip premium Wisconsin-grown American ginseng together with our chicken essence, allowing its light herbal aroma to slowly blend into the broth. The finish is smooth, subtly sweet, and never heavy.

In Shennong’s Classic of Materia Medica, reishi is listed as a superior herb and described as benefiting the heart, replenishing the center, enhancing wisdom, and supporting memory. Compendium of Materia Medica also records that “with long use, it lightens the body, delays aging, and extends life.” In traditional wellness wisdom, the greatest value of reishi is not just what it “tonifies,” but how it helps the body return to balance.
Modern research has also found that the polysaccharides and triterpenes in reishi may help support immune function and the body’s response to stress. It does not forcefully fight against the body’s struggles. Instead, it gently supports the body so it can regain its own strength. And that is exactly what many of the people who found us during difficult times needed—not intense nourishment, but gentle companionship that helps them get through.
